CNY 2018 Special: Year of the Dog
To welcome the year of the dog, the obvious choice of food is … Dogs! Don’t worry, I mean the hot kind.
I knew Big Bite had a small section of hot dogs on their menu and having tried their burgers and Tuesday chicken wings deal this was the first place that popped into my mind for the CNY special.
Like many of the burger joints around Hong Kong, this is a walk-in, self serve type of place. For the hot dogs (as well as the burgers) you can opt for a combo, adding fries. But you can get regular fries anywhere, so since Big Bite is a Canadian style restaurant, I had to try out the poutine. I went for the Chilli Hot Dog with CHIK Poutine and Nisha went for the Pig in a Blanket Hot Dog with Chilli Cheese Fries.
For the hot dogs there is a choice of 2 sausages, spicy Italian or British. The spicy Italian with Chilli topping was quite spicy and the so called British sausage was more like a thick frankfurter sausage. For Nisha’s hot dog, the bacon on top was not crispy enough leaving it quite oily but the sausage was as expected. The poutine and chilli fries were a lot better than the hot dogs, the fries were crispy and had the right amount of sauce.
The grannies that we are, we both had a hot drink, but they have a nice selection of craft beers.
Verdict: I would come here again except only for the burgers and Tuesday $3 chicken wings deal. However for the hot dogs, I wouldn’t bother trying again, although a good portion the sausage isn’t particularly tasty just your regular Johnsonville.
